IT Traineeship at YC NEXT
2023-present, Den Haag
In November 2023 I started my backend developer
traineeship at Young Capital NEXT. It began with an 8-week
bootcamp where I learnt a lot about IT, in particular
Java, and passed my Java OCFA exam with 92% correct. I
also made a full stack auction website and worked as part
of an Agile/Scrum team. I am now available as a Java
Trainee via NEXT, and while I wait for a position I am
furthering my knowledge by creating a language learning
app in Java Spring Boot + React.
Web Developer Bootcamp
2022-2023, Den Haag
I moved to the Netherlands in the summer and completed
Colt Steele's Web Developer Bootcamp course
from September 2022 to March 2023. I learned HTML, CSS,
JavaScript and Node.js and built a full-stack Express app
as the final project. I then went on to learn React. Apart
from coding, I was also teaching English part time, and
learning Dutch. I got my B2 certificate less than two
years after moving here, and can now work in Dutch.
Secondary School Teacher of French and Spanish
2019-2022, Manchester
I moved back to Manchester to do my teacher training, and
went on to teach French and Spanish to students aged 11-18
in a school in Manchester. When coronavirus hit and
schools had to close, I developed a passion for education
technology. My years as a secondary school teacher were
very intense - I learnt a lot, but I also burnt out from
stress and working 60 hours per week.
Teacher of English as a Foreign Language
2017-2019, Paris
I trained to teach English as a foreign language (CELTA)
and then moved to Paris, where I taught English to adults
in a private language school. I really enjoyed the job,
met lots of interesting people and improved my French, but
it was never meant to be a long term thing, so in July
2019 I moved back to the UK to train to become a secondary
school teacher.
BA Hons French and Linguistics
2013-2017, University of Leeds
My course suited me well because it was scientific as well
as creative. I enjoyed learning about how languages work,
and was lucky enough to have really passionate professors
teaching me. As part of the French course, I spent a year
teaching English in Normandy, France, which was an amazing
first experience living abroad. I lived with Spanish
speakers, which is how I ended up learning Spanish.
